There are many different types of yoga practices that you could try out such as Hatha yoga which focuses on breathing exercises, meditation, and poses; Vinyasa yoga which involves synchronizing breath with movement; Bikram yoga which is done in a heated room at temperatures around 38 degrees.Yoga can be done at home or at the gym, with or without equipment, and it doesn't matter if you're wearing yoga clothes or workout leggings!
We have put together some of the three most common yoga exercises for beginners are:
- Downward dog pose
- Chair pose
- Seated spinal twist
- Downward-facing dog: This pose will work on stretching out all the muscles in your upper body including those found in your arms, shoulders, neck, spine, chest, hamstrings, calves and feet. Downward-facing Dog acts in the opposite to the usual forces on your back and pushes more blood flow to your brain. When incorporated into a weekly yoga routine, it can help relieve chronic back pain. The position is head down, almost to a point where it is almost touching the ground. Your body weight will be spread across your hands and feet. Arm out shoulder width apart and stretch straight forward. Your legs are positioned straight and are about a foot apart. Now stretch your hips up raising them as high as possible and hold the pose.
- Chair Pose: This pose will help you stretch your back and hips while strengthening your core muscles. All you have to do is stand up straight with your feet together and bend forward from the waist until your hands touch the ground in front of you. You should feel a gentle stretch in your back and hips as well as in the muscles around your abdomen.
- Seated spinal twist: This is a yoga position that can be done anywhere. It is a great way to relax and stretch out your spine. You can do this by sitting on the floor or on a chair with your legs straight out in front of you. Then, take one arm and place it behind you with your palm flat on the floor or chair. Next, take the other arm and reach it over your head as far as possible and then pull gently back towards you. This will help open up your chest, shoulders, neck and back while stretching out your spine.
Seated spinal twist is one of those yoga positions that can be done anywhere! This pose is really great for those who want to relax or stretch their spine at home without having to travel somewhere else first.
Yoga is great and can be done everywhere. Hope you have enjoyed some quick tips to get started from the team at Nobodi. Now throw on some activewear and give it a go!
